Bodybuilders generally use higher repetitions; powerlifters generally use somewhat lower repetitions. A bodybuilder will use repetitions that will range from 6 to 12 per set or sometimes even higher. The powerlifter will generally use repetitions that are much lower. In powerlifting, single repetitions are used quiet often. Due to the heavier weights used in powerlifting, you will need more rest between sets and even between repetitions. This will make the powerlifting routine take a little more time than a lighter routine. This in turn will limit you to only one or two of the lifts and their supplemental exercises per workout. Number of Sets? The sets can at times, be about the same. (Training in powerlifting is like other training; it is the individual's choice of how he trains to best suit his needs at the time)

Iron sport outsiders often see bodybuilders and powerlifters as interchangeable, like identical twins, but those who bodybuild and those who powerlift mostly focus on the differences between one another. In reality, each could learn plenty from the other.
Although there is a correlation between muscle mass and strength, the relationship is not as direct as many people assume. Often, you can get stronger without significantly increasing your muscle mass. Similarly, you can add to your muscle mass without getting significantly stronger. For that reason, incorporating both styles of training into your own workouts gives you the double bonus of making your muscles grow while making you stronger. Once your body is stronger, it's that much easier to make your muscles grow even more. don't eliminate training for smaller bodyparts, such as biceps and triceps, as powerlifters do. This should give you your bodybuilding fix while you attend to the real business at hand: increasing your strength. |
