Depends on your goals. If you're trying to lose weight then cardio on an empty stomach is preferable, which would mean doing it first thing in the morning. As for resistance excercise (Weights etc) I find it best to do this in the evening, after I've got several meals behind me for that day. About 20 minutes before my workout, I'll drink a coffee (coffee releases fat into the bloodstream) and usually eat a banana for a boost of energy. Usually after finishing my weights workout, I'll be revanously hungry, so I'll eat a post workout meal consisting of tuna and pasta, and ill usually drink a pint or two of milk. It should be noted that I have a very high caloric intake as I'm trying to grow and not lose weight. I've gained 1.5 stone in six months, and my bodyfat percentage has remained the same. hope that helps - cheers ![]() |

Assuming your goal is to burn fat, there are two times when you should work out. Either first thing in the morning before breakfast or after a weight training session. The reason is that your muscles normally have gylcogen(stored carbohydrates) to power themselves. In order for any workout to burn fat, these glycogen stores must be depleted first. They only will your body start to use fat as an energy source. When you wake up in the morning, these glycogen reserves will have been used up already so any cardio you do will burn fat. Also after a weight training session, your muscles will have no more glycogen so any cardio you do afterwards will be forced to burn fat. I've found that this is the best time to do cardio. In the morning, I'm struggling to wake up so pumping my legs can be a bit tough and getting my heart rate in the fat burning target zone and keeping it there takes a lot of effort. But after a weight training session, my heart rate is already in the zone and I'm feeling a high which makes it easier to jump on the bike and start pumping. Some people say not to work out in the evening cause the energy boost will make it harder to fall asleep. I guess it depends how late you begin your workout. I generally start at 6 and finish by 7:30, eat a small dinner, and don't have any problems sleeping by 10 or 11. If I eat something less than 2 hours before going to bed, I have trouble falling asleep which is why it's good practice to skip dessert. |

well all times are best
there is no hard and fast rule about it Morning workouts really get some people going, release endorphins, and enhance mood. If you enjoy starting your day with a workout, or find that it's the only time you can fit it into your schedule, stick with it. Others find afternoon or evening workouts productive and stress-relieving. When we wake up, our body temperature and blood sugar levels are low, so our muscles aren't as "loose" as later in the day. In a perfect world, our muscles are warmer and fueled by a few meals later, well after we awake. |
